Carrick-on-Shannon Tennis Club aims to make tennis as accessible as possible to everyone who is interested in joining. It is a non profit organisation run exclusively by volunteer members. We do not charge once-off entrance fees and try to keep our membership rates as low as we can. Against this background the club has to manage its finances carefully to cover running costs. In the case of major capital expenditure, fundraising activities together with grant funding are vital to the club’s future as a facility for the local community and visitors.
Plan to build changing rooms, showers, and toilet facilities
Approved Design for Clubhouse
Our tennis club sorely lacks shelter, changing rooms, showers and toilets. Such facilities are much more important now our membership draws on the entire south Leitrim region. This Heritage Area design, coordinated with local council planning, includes dedicated male and female changing/shower rooms, a wheelchair accessible bathroom with shower, and an externally accessible toilet to cater especially for our regular visitors, for example young children at schools coaching sessions, and groups from the National Learning Network.

Over the next year, our fundraising efforts will be directed towards making this project a reality. In August 2024 we received notification of a grant award towards this project totalling €208,600 from the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Recognition Fund. This represents a major step in reaching our goal, but we will still need to raise extra funds for contingencies including price rises. A later planned project will seek to upgrade our existing floodlights to LED to save electricity costs and to protect the environment. Please help us by donating to these worthy initiatives!

Regular fundraising events
Summer Garden Party
One of our most exciting fundraising events is the annual summer Garden Party which we hold in the grounds of the club on the August Bank Holiday weekend. The party has been a huge success in previous years and involves food, entertainment, and games for the children – coinciding with Carrick Rowing Club’s hosting of their annual Regatta on the river below.
Table Quiz
Carrick-on-Shannon Lawn Tennis Club hosts an annual Tennis Club table quiz each winter in the Bush Hotel. Participants can test their knowledge about the game itself and have fun together with their friends and families. This is a very popular event and is well supported by the people of the town. Local businesses have always proved generous in providing us with spot prizes on the night.
